The Tokyo Games were postponed a year, the qualification cycle was rewritten, and a generation of gymnasts had to hold their peak for another twelve months. Here's where to follow the Olympic side of the sport.
What happened
In March 2020 the International Olympic Committee postponed the Tokyo Games by a full year — the first peacetime postponement in Olympic history. For gymnasts, whose careers are measured in a handful of healthy seasons, the delay changed everything: training closures, rescheduled trials and an entirely reworked selection timeline. The Games were finally held in the summer of 2021, still branded Tokyo 2020.
